No wonder my heart is glad, and my tongue shouts his praises! My body rests in hope. —Acts 2:26 (NLT)

Hope is our lifeline, keeping us engaged in the struggle. Marathoners press on to the finish line as long as they have hope. Nothing—virtually nothing—is able to defeat us if our hope stays alive.

Do you have this hope? Can you go to sleep tonight knowing that your sins have been forgiven? As we’ve seen, it’s because Christ died and has been raised that He has washed you free of the hatred, revenge, lust, resentment, rebellion, and selfishness. If you can say that, you have a reason to sleep well. If you cannot, may God keep you awake, make you miserable, and give you no peace until you turn your heart over to Him.

God isn’t roaming across heaven, carrying a club, looking down on earth for people to strike down. God’s wrath has been satisfied. The resurrection was God’s “Amen” to Jesus’ “It is finished!” 

The death of the Savior paid the complete penalty for sin. His death built the bridge that was needed between you and God. His resurrection opened the door, welcoming you home. 

There’s hope because you’re forgiven. 

The darkness has passed. 

Look! The dawn has arrived. Come on home.

Then, when our dying bodies have been transformed into bodies that will never die, this Scripture will be fulfilled:

“Death is swallowed up in victory. 

O death, where is your victory?

O death, where is your sting?”

For sin is the sting that results in death, and the law gives sin its power. But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ. (1 Corinthians 15:54-57)
