The song ‘Lonely Teardrops’ was written by Berry Gordy Jr., Gwen Gordy, and Roquel "Billy" Davis, and it was first recorded and released as a single in 1958 by R&B singer Jackie Wilson. It became such a big hit, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame named ‘Lonely Teardrops’ one of the "Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll". Then in 1999, the song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.

On The Voice, Elias Gomez covers the song in his own way, and the judges – Reba McEntire, Snoop Dogg, Michael Bublé, and Niall Horan – were all very impressed.

“I’ve got one space left, and I was like, ‘Let this last space be for the king, for the star,’” shared Michael Bublé. “And then I’m back there and I hear a dude take a Jackie Wilson song, and you crushed it. Jackie Wilson is looking down, and he’s going like, ‘Mm-hmm.’”

Snoop Dogg shared how he really enjoyed the uniqueness of the performance. “I know that record, but I’ve never heard it sung in that style, and you were really good at doing it,” he said. “No matter what team you end up on, I think you’re gonna be in great hands, because you’re on a show with people that really enjoy people like you and what you do.”

“That was absolutely amazing. We were rocking out back there!” said Niall Horan.

Despite what it may seem when watching episodes of The Voice, American Idol and America’s Got Talent, not everyone who auditions makes it onto those programs. Sure, especially in the case of American Idol, a hard-luck, depressing backstory may help your chances of making it on the show. However, the person auditioning must still have an abundance of talent.

This is doubly true for anyone trying out for The Voice because the judges face away from the contestants when they take the stage. Only their voice will cause them to flip their chairs around. One young woman’s powerhouse of a voice while singing a beloved R&B tune caused all four judges to turn their chairs.

Trinity, a 24-year-old from Connecticut, sang En Vogue’s “Don’t Let Go,” which was fantastic! Within seconds of her outstanding and jaw-dropping audition, it became clear that she had been blessed with an angelic voice. But she continued to surprise. Whenever you thought she had reached her ceiling and demonstrated all that her voice was capable of, she did more and more.

The longer her audition went, the better her vocal performance got. She reached for and hit several very high notes, earning her a four-chair turn and high praise from the judges.
While all four judges were thoroughly impressed with Trinity’s audition, Snoop Dogg gave her the biggest compliment when trying to convince her to join his team.

“So, that song is an En Vogue song, and it’s sung with four women,” he said. “The way you held that song down by yourself without all of those backgrounds and ad-libs, that’s strength. That’s power. You remind me of Donna Summer. You just up there looking like a superstar.”

This song is such a timeless classic! ‘Still the One’ was written by Johanna Hall and John Hall, and it was recorded by the soft rock group Orleans on their album Waking and Dreaming, which was released in 1976. The song ended up reaching No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100.

In this cover, the group Foxes and Fossils takes the lead on Orleans’ smash hit. “Known for its soaring harmonies and heartfelt delivery, this Foxes and Fossils cover captures the same magic that made the original a staple of the ’70s while adding the unique F&F touch that fans love,” reads the caption of this YouTube video.

A group of youngsters wowed with their powerful a cappella performance on The Jennifer Hudson Show. Very early in their appearance on the popular program, it's apparent that the children have been blessed greatly with an abundance of musical talent. Everyone has been blessed with a different, unique set of skills and talents. Some people might be good at working with their hands, while others may be skilled speakers, able to captivate a crowd with the spoken word. Some may have more than others, but we all have one or two areas in which we are naturally gifted.

As shows like American Idol, The Voice and America's Got Talent have made it entirely clear, a lot of people believe they are gifted, talented singers. Many of those individuals are correct, while others have been deceived and are incorrect in their musical abilities. Singing is a talent like any other. People either have it or they do not. A clip posted on YouTube shows four little ones who clearly have it.

The youngsters, who call themselves The Brown Four, performed an a cappella rendition of "I'll Take You There," the 1972 classic by The Staple Singers. And it's absolutely fantastic! It's a rendition that you could listen to repeatedly and never tire of it.

Each of the four children has an outstanding voice and incredible range, which they all demonstrate at various points throughout their dazzling performance. Not only are they individually talented, but the four children's harmonies are literally music to the ear. Just when you think they've done everything they can do, they continue to demonstrate their incredible, mind-blowing amount of God-given talent.

Check out this talented teen as he stuns the audience and judges on The Voice with his cover of ‘I Want You Back’ from The Jackson 5. The young singer is 14-year-old Max Chambers from Shreveport, Louisiana. His singing is sure to make you smile from ear to ear!

As soon as Max starts singing, the four coaches can be seen immediately dancing in their chairs. Reba McEntire, Snoop Dogg, Michael Bublé, and Niall Horan are all loving the joy and fun that Max brings to the stage. And Michael Bublé and Reba McEntire end up turning their chairs around during Max’s audition.

“I think you have fun entertaining, don’t you?” Reba says to Max after he finishes singing ‘I Want You Back.’ “Yes ma’am,” replies Max with a big smile on his face. “I know we’d have fun if you chose me as your coach,” says Reba.

Michael Bublé goes on to tell Max about the infectious energy he brought to his performance. “The joy you just brought the whole room is immense. You’re 14. It’s gonna be crazy for people to watch how much you grow,” Michael shares. “Your runs are great. Your pitch is great. Sometimes it’s about controlling stuff, and that’s okay. That’s what my job is as a coach. You’re awesome, and I’d love to hang with you, man.”

On American Idol, America’s Got Talent and The Voice, those hoping to make it onto those shows are constantly auditioning with covers. Sure, a few people will sing and perform their own material, but those instances are few and far between. Anyone who watches those programs with any regularity understands that it’s cover performances 99.9 percent of the time.

Now, every judge on those shows has likely heard almost every song imaginable covered in 1,000 different ways. So, to stand out and have their talent shine through, a contestant must take some risks and change things up a little to make the judges sit up and take notice, to draw them in. That was precisely what one young man did during his audition on The Voice, causing the four judges to flip their chairs around for him.

In the clip posted on YouTube, it becomes clear relatively early on that Dustin Dale Gaspard has a ton of talent and that something special is about to happen. He starts his audition by playing the harmonica, which no one ever does.

But it gets even better.

He then starts singing the song, demonstrating his unique and distinctive voice as he belts out the lyrics originally written and performed by Sam Cooke. Then, Dustin changes things again and starts singing those memorable and iconic lyrics in French, a move that blows all four judges away. The judges then hit their buttons one by one, flipping their chairs around to face the young man.

Maybe you remember Connie—that tiny six-year-old who walked onto the Britain's Got Talent stage in 2007 with a gap-toothed smile and sang ‘Over the Rainbow’ like she'd been carrying it in her pocket her whole short life. She came in second that year, but nearly two decades later, she's still here, still finding ways to make familiar songs feel like gifts we're opening for the first time.

When Connie sits at her piano to perform ‘Mamma Mia,’ everything slows down—the tempo drops. The playfulness softens. Those bouncy ABBA chords become something tender, almost achingly so. Max Cooper III begins to play an incredible piano intro. As he opens his mouth, the judges are all intrigued. Snoop Dog’s chair quickly turns around. 

They realize that he is singing a unique rendition of “Cooler Than Me.” His flair and style of vocals are really fun to hear. You never know where he is going to go. His swag gets a second turn. 

All of a sudden, he does this shocking vocal run on the lyrics, “You’ve got your head in the clouds.” Reba literally cannot contain her excitement, and her jaw drops.

His voice has depth, style, and quite a range. The last two judges discuss their turn. They are so amazed at him. They turn their chairs. He finishes strong. 

The judges compliment him on receiving all of the chairs turning. They share about how he does an incredible job growing the song. It takes a skilled artist to do that. 

Max reveals that he is only 23 years old and from Kansas City, Missouri. They were proud of his style, and he loves pop songs with a jazz flair. Max says that the first song that he ever sang was ‘Just Haven’t Met You Yet’, and Michael Bublé says that he wrote that song and asks if they can sing it together. 

The crowd cheers. The two of them sing a duet at the piano. Michael has his arm around Max at the piano. It is a special moment for this young man meeting an artist that he has looked up to for a long time.

It is great to have people that we look up to in life who are worth emulating. Jesus makes it clear that He is the one to follow; He invites us to come and follow Him. May we remember that He is right there with us in life, just like Michael is with Max at the piano.

This is one version of a tune, known and loved by many, that you'll want to listen to repeatedly. It's nearly impossible to get away from love songs. That is especially true if you're listening to music of any genre or style. That’s because almost every single song in existence is a love song. If you were to examine the lyrics of most songs, that is what you would find and conclude. It may not necessarily be a tune about romantic love (which most are), but odds are the vocalist is still singing about some form of love.

Since we can now all agree that love is a subject that has and continues to keep musicians and songwriters busy, there are a handful of truly classic love songs that everyone knows, even if they don't know they do. Al Green's "Let's Stay Together," "My Girl" by The Temptations," and "I Will Always Love You," originally by Dolly Parton and then Whitney Houston, are just a few that immediately come to mind. Of course, there are many others, a seemingly endless amount.

One that certainly fits the bill of a love song is Air Supply's 1980 hit "All Out of Love." Not only is it a love song, but it's also incredibly recognizable. Likely within the song's first few opening notes, most people will spot it, knowing that one of the most beloved songs of all time has just started.

Aretha Franklin’s classic “Respect” sparked an epic and surprising dance battle. The two competitors refused to back down, seemingly having the time of their lives while showing their fancy footwork to the timeless tune. Getting exercise and simply getting up and moving around are essential for everyone. This becomes even more so as we age and begin to slow down. But, of course, muscles that aren’t used regularly will atrophy even faster, which is why doing something as simple as a walk around the block can be incredibly beneficial.

The point is to find something you enjoy doing that involves getting up, moving around and putting those muscles to work. If you enjoy doing it, exercise will feel less like a chore and more like something you’re genuinely excited about doing. It can literally be anything; just pick something and get active!

A clip posted on YouTube showed some older adults living in a retirement center enjoying classic tunes. However, a couple of them weren’t interested in simply sitting down and listening; they felt the need to get up and boogie, and why not?

The man and woman danced around, engaged in a highly competitive dance battle, and others sat around the room, taking in the show. Both showed that despite their advanced age, they were still pretty nimble on their feet, moving around the dance floor with relative ease and plenty of rhythm.

But they weren’t the only people out on the dance floor strutting their stuff. Near the short clip’s conclusion, two other individuals were also spotted on the floor, having a good time listening to Aretha’s beloved tune from 1967.

Typically, dance battles end with a winner and a loser selected. However, I’m not the right person to choose. Everyone on the dance floor showed they were much better on their feet and had more talent and coordination than I do!

From what I can tell, The Voice is the only music talent competition show in which the judges are literally facing away from those hoping to make it onto the show. Instead of a sad, hard-luck, personal story, a contestant's voice and musical ability are the only things that will win over a judge. Those judges aren't turning their chairs if their voice isn't impressive.

American Idol and America's Got Talent really put a lot of focus on a contestant's backstory, which is often intended to tug at the judges' and the audience's heartstrings. You're already rooting for this or that person to do well before they even sing a note. The Voice doesn't do that before they sing for the judges.

In a clip posted on YouTube, it was a young woman's beautiful and unique voice, and not a hard-luck backstory, that caused all four of the judges to turn their chairs around. Within seconds, it was clear that Sadie Dahl had a massive amount of talent. The judges wasted no time at all turning their chairs around for the aspiring singer.

She doesn't have the strongest voice in the world, but she has a beautiful tone and knows how to move her voice up and down, creating literal music to the ears. It was a dazzling performance that you could listen to repeatedly.

The judges showered the young woman with praise and compliments, but Reba McEntire gave her the biggest compliment.

"You could definitely win this thing," Reba told Sadie. "I'm not kidding you. That was mesmerizing."

A stunning “Ain’t No Mount High Enough” cover wowed. These musicians turned in a world-class, jaw-dropping rendition of this beloved classic tune. Who doesn’t enjoy a good cover every now and then? No, I’m not talking about the ones that were sewn and knitted together, but those are also amazing, especially on a cold and chilly night. What I am talking about are those cherished, timeless tunes performed by musicians who did not originally write or record them.

Everyone loves hearing someone else’s interpretation of a classic, unless it’s awful and embarrassing. In that case, we’ll completely wipe it from our collective memory, never speak of it again and go about our lives as if it never happened. Thankfully, for the most part, that is not the case. Most musicians who are going to play someone else’s songs usually give those songs the time and care they deserve.

It’s a simply marvelous rendition of the song previously performed by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell. You’ll likely find yourself dancing along and singing those iconic, memorable lyrics. It has one of the catchiest choruses of all time. It’s nearly physically impossible to listen to that song and not sing the chorus, at the very least.

“Ain’t no mountain high enough
Ain’t no valley low enough

To keep me from gettin’ to you, baby”

While I’m not the biggest fan of covers, this one is fantastic. You could easily listen to this one repeatedly. Some might even argue that it gives the original a run for its money.

An extremely talented trio nails a Jo Dee Messina classic and gets a near-instant 4-Chair turn on The Voice—which rarely happens on the voice competition show. These performers know what they’re doing. Play the video to hear the outstanding performance. 

The country pop trio Dek of Hearts gave a performance full of heart and harmony. They impressed the judges and crowd so much with their cover that they started a dramatic fight among the judges. Each of them almost instantly slammed their buttons just seconds into the song, and Snoop Dogg was the first to praise the group.

Snoop, standing, said, “I couldn’t even sit down. I wanted to hee-haw and yee-yaw! Y’all gave me the country Holy Ghost. I need to know whats y’all name, where y’all from, and how long y’all been doing this.”

The band explained they’re based in Nashville and have been together for 14 months. 

The Voice only has one country singer judge, Reba McEntire, so all of the other judges knew it wouldn’t be likely that a country group would choose another judge to lead them through the rest of the competition.

Judge Niall Horan said, “I know it’s Reba, but please,” he said, gesturing to himself.

Reba interrupted, getting up to stand in front of Niall. “Okay, it’s my turn to talk. Ignore him, totally,” she joked, gesturing to Niall. “I love with all of my heart three-part harmony. It touched the core of my being. I can’t tell you how important this is to me for y’all to be on my team.” 

After Michael Bublé, Snoop, and all of the judges argued for Dek of Hearts to choose them, Reba asked the crowd who they should pick. The overwhelming response was “Reba!”

In the end, Dek of Heart’s lead, Emily, told them, “We are a country trio, but we’re also a country pop trio. So, it would mean the world to us… 1, 2, 3…  team Niall!”

Niall jumped in surprise as Reba pretended to faint, lying flat on the stage and pretending to sob. 

Despite the loss for the other judges, it’s clear that the performers were happy that they’d wowed everyone and left the stage with a very satisfied audience!

The Voice is one of the most popular shows on television. Along with similar programs like American Idol and America’s Got Talent, it has been on for years. During its run, many singers have occupied one of the four chairs and assumed coaching duties. Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, Adam Levin, Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani and others have all been coaches on the show at one time or another.

While the show has been on for several years, there haven’t been many instances in which those auditioning, hoping to make their musical dreams a reality, have brought the coaches to tears. However, in a clip posted on YouTube, that was precisely what happened when a country singer performed for the four judges, hoping to make it onto The Voice.

Manny Costello, a country singer and father of two, beautifully performed Craig Morgan’s “Almost Home. His dazzling rendition of the tune caused Reba and Snoop Dogg to sit up, take notice and flip their chairs around. It was well deserved. But what happened while Reba was giving her comments on the young man’s performance caught many people’s attention. She got choked up and started to cry.

“It took me back to all the greats that I have been so fortunate enough to get to listen to in my life,” she said. “You’ve gotten qualities from George Jones and Haggard and there’s a little Randy in there. It’s just a great combination. It’s just…gosh dang, why am I getting so emotional?”

Manny’s performance was fantastic, and with praise from one of the biggest country music singers ever, it’s no surprise that he selected Reba as his coach.

Paul Simon’s classic “You Can Call Me Al” shone in an outstanding rendition. The talented group of musicians turned in a jaw-dropping, mesmerizing cover of the 1986 tune. Watch the short but most enjoyable clip to listen to this utterly delightful performance of “You Can Call Me Al.”

Paul Simon is an incredibly popular musician primarily known for his folk music from the 60s and 70s. “Bridge over Troubled Water,” “Mrs. Robinson,” “The Boxer” and “The Sound of Silence” are just a few of his biggest and most beloved songs. He is the kind of musician you know even if you aren’t aware that you do. He is responsible for some of the most iconic songs of all time.

Of course, all those tunes mentioned above are also ones with Art Garfunkel. But, as many musicians often do, they eventually went their separate ways, venturing out on their own. Paul continued making music, including the joyous, upbeat and incredibly catchy tune from 1986, “You Can Call Me Al.” Like many of Paul Simon’s tunes, this song does not get old. It can be listened to endlessly, and you’ll never tire of it.

In a clip posted on YouTube, a group of musicians performed Paul Simon’s beloved hit from the 1980s, which is absolutely fantastic. While it may not be Paul Simon singing those memorable and catchy lyrics, it’s the next best thing. Seriously, this cover is that good! Seconds into their performance, you’ll find yourself singing and dancing along.

You sang along with the musicians, didn’t you? See, I told you and knew that you would. That song and their cover are too good not to!

A singer stunned with his rendition of a Journey classic on The Voice, getting all four chairs to turn around for him. Journey is undoubtedly one of the most beloved bands of all time. While not at the level of The Beatles or The Rolling Stones, they are still a band that produced several memorable tunes. Their songs have endured for decades, remaining popular despite the passage of time. That, of course, is how you can tell a classic from your average, everyday song that is remembered today but forgotten five minutes later.

While I will admit that Journey is a classic rock band that many people love and adore, I've never been a fan. My anti-Journey stance and opinion stem from their most recognizable song, "Don't Stop Believin'." It is so incredibly overplayed that it's impossible to get away from, with it constantly played on the radio and covered on shows like American Idol and America's Got Talent. 

Despite my aversion to and dislike of Journey, I can still admit and recognize when someone knocks one of their songs out of the park; that is precisely what one young man did during his audition on The Voice. Seconds after he began singing "Lights," Ralph had the judges frantically flipping their chairs around.

Ralph's vocal performance was jaw-droppingly stunning, literally music to the ears. He showcased his immense musical talent and will be someone to watch as this season progresses. He could very well be the person to take that top spot as the season comes to an end.

A 19-year-old wowed with his “You’ll Never Find Another Love Like Mine” rendition on The Voice. The young man’s stunning vocals got two of the show’s four judges to flip their chairs around for him. The Voice has to be the most challenging of the popular talent competition shows to get past the audition phase and make it onto the actual show. On American Idol and America’s Got Talent, the judges immediately greet those auditioning, have a quick back-and-forth and get to know them a little. Many of those auditioning have a sob story, which they tell the judges, and then go on to audition. We are all humans, and those tear-jerking stories will impact most people, even judges on a talent competition show.

However, on The Voice, the judges literally face away from the contestants as they enter the room and prepare to audition. The only thing that will cause any of the show’s four judges to turn around is the contestant’s vocal performance. That is precisely what happened during a clip posted on YouTube.

For his audition, 19-year-old Lucas Beltrán performed Lou Rawls’ “You’ll Never Find Another Love Like Mine,” which was simply outstanding. The young man turned in a performance that would make anyone sit up and take notice, in this instance, it was Reba and Michael.

Lucas’ talent and his voice are beyond his young years. He has a voice and a sound that we don’t typically hear much of today. But the biggest surprise had to be that he is only 19 years old. He is only going to get better and better.
