The media and, by extension, social media went crazy on Saturday after ICE arrested a man in southern California while taking his pregnant wife to the hospital.

The Daily Caller reports as news spread about the arrest by ICE of Joel Arrona Lara at a gas station in San Bernardino, so did the outrage on social media.

However, it only came out later that Lara was arrested because he is wanted for murder in Mexico.

Lara was arrested when he and his wife stopped at the gas station on their way to the hospital for a scheduled C-section, prompting many to call ICE agents “cruel” and renew calls to abolish the agency.

An ICE spokeswoman said Mexico sought the help of ICE after issuing a warrant for his arrest on homicide charges.

Lara reportedly has been living in the U.S. illegally for 12 years.
