FRISCO, Texas (AP) — The Dallas Cowboys focused on their running game at the start of free agency, agreeing to one-year contracts with former Denver running back Javonte Williams and former Miami offensive lineman Rob Jones on Monday.

Dallas added Williams after reaching deals to bring back its own free agents in defensive back Markquese Bell and long snapper Trent Sieg. The contract for Jones worth up to $4.5 million was confirmed by his agent, Drew Rosenhaus.

The addition of Williams, a 2021 second-round pick who had 2,394 yards and 11 touchdowns rushing in four seasons with the Broncos, raises doubts about the return of Rico Dowdle. The fifth-year player was the first undrafted Dallas back to rush for 1,000 yards.

Dowdle had a strong second half of the season, but the Cowboys finished 27th in the NFL in rushing offense. New coach Brian Shottenheimer, who replaced Mike McCarthy, has said Dallas will focus on improving its running game.

The Cowboys figure to use a deep draft at running back to boost the position next month. The Cowboys have the 12th overall pick.

Jones could compete for the starting job at right guard with Brock Hoffman, who replaced seven-time All-Pro Zack Martin after Martin's season-ending ankle injury last season. Martin retired this month.

Bell has been classified as a safety for Dallas but could have the versatility to play closer to the line of scrimmage after the Cowboys lost nickel cornerback Jourdan Lewis to Jacksonville in free agency.

Sieg's return gives stability to kicker Brandon Aubrey, who has made the Pro Bowl in each of his two seasons. Punter Bryan Anger, who was Aubrey's holder, is also a free agent.
