Rescue animals could become Florida's official state pet

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Animals in rescue shelters and those adopted from them could become Florida's official state pet. A bill to make that designation was unanimously approved by a Senate committee on Monday. Democratic Sen. Kevin Rader said he decided to sponsor the bill after reading about other states that have done the same thing. He said his goal is to raise awareness about rescue pets so hopefully more people will adopt them.
