NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — New York Jets safety Minkah Fitzpatrick hurt a groin muscle in the first quarter Sunday against the Tennessee Titans and was ruled out for the game.

The Jets at first called Fitzpatrick questionable to return, then downgraded him to doubtful early in the third quarter before saying he was out minutes later. The Jets traded for the three-time All-Pro and five-time Pro Bowl safety in March from Miami as New York revamped its defense.

Fitzpatrick appeared to go down untouched near the Titans' sideline. Tennessee quarterback Cam Ward pulled up on a scramble close to Fitzpatrick, who already was on the ground.

The Jets also ruled out rookie wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. with an injured ankle. Cooper set up the Jets' first touchdown with a 30-yard catch-and-run down to the Titans 4 on the opening drive.

New York also lost starting cornerback Jarvis Brownlee Jr. to an injured calf late in the second quarter.
