Authorities are asking the public to review any security or phone footage from the week before the mass shooting at Brown University in the hopes it might help investigators identify the suspect, believing he may have cased the scene ahead of time. With the search for the shooter in its fifth day Wednesday, the city of Providence is on edge, with investigators showing no sign that they're close to figuring out who was behind Saturday's attack that killed two students and wounded nine others. The request to review older video came after authorities released several clips from the hours and minutes before and after the attack. In all of those, the suspect was masked or had his head turned.

Nick Reiner, son of Rob Reiner, appeared in court as he faces charges of first-degree murder in the killing of his parents. The 32-year-old did not enter a plea as he appeared Wednesday from behind the glass wall of a custody area. He was in shackles and wearing a jail suicide prevention smock. Arraignment was postponed until Jan. 7. The 78-year-old actor and director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead from stab wounds in their Los Angeles home Sunday. Nick Reiner was arrested hours later.

U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said on Tuesday there are no plans to release the full unedited video of the September 2 strikes on a suspected drug trafficking boat in the Caribbean that fueled concerns about the Trump administration's plans for Venezuela. Hegseth and Secretary of State Marco Rubio conducted briefings on Tuesday for every member of the Senate and House of Representatives, responding to lawmakers' demands for more information about a 3-1/2-month campaign of more than 20 strikes against boats in the Caribbean and Pacific that have killed more than 80 people. Prosecutors say Rob Reiner’s son Nick Reiner will be charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the killing of his parents. Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman announced the charges against 32-year-old Nick Reiner at a news conference on Tuesday. Prosecutors plan to file the charges, two counts of first degree murder special circumstances of multiple murders, later Tuesday. The announcement of the charges came two days after the famed actor and director Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer Reiner were found dead in their Los Angeles home. Their son Nick Reiner was arrested hours later. Nick Reiner’s attorney Alan Jackson said medical reasons kept his client from making his first court appearance Tuesday.

Authorities near Boston say they have no suspect in custody in the death of an MIT professor shot at his home. Nuno F.G. Loureiro, 47, died at a local hospital on Tuesday morning after the Monday night shooting in Brookline, the Norfolk District Attorney’s Office said in a statement. Loureiro was the director of MIT’s Plasma Science and Fusion Center and a professor in both the Nuclear Science and Engineering and Physics departments, the school said. MIT said it was offering support and other services to his students, colleagues and others in the community. Brookline police referred questions about the shooting to the prosecutor’s office, which gave only limited information about what it called “an active and ongoing homicide investigation.” Loureiro pursued his studies in Portugal and London and did postdoctoral work at the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory, according to his MIT faculty page. He was a researcher at the Institute for Plasmas and Nuclear Fusion at IST Lisbon before joining MIT in 2016, it said.
