Two More U.S. Soldiers Killed In Iran War

A person is in custody after authorities say an incendiary device was ignited outside a federal building in Lower Manhattan on Monday morning, prompting an investigation by the FBI's New York Joint Terrorism Task Force. The incident happened outside 26 Federal Plaza, which houses several federal agencies, including the FBI's New York office, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and an immigration court. Officials said the suspect allegedly deployed a makeshift incendiary device believed to have been made with fireworks and a flammable liquid before being taken into custody at the scene. FBI Director Kash Patel said two people suffered minor injuries. Authorities temporarily secured the building and surrounding area while investigators processed the scene. Officials have not announced any charges or identified a motive, and the investigation remains ongoing.

The Defense Department has identified the two U.S. service members killed last week while defending against Iranian missile and drone attacks in Jordan. Military officials said 25-year-old First Lt. Tyler James Feehan of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, and 19-year-old Pvt. Isabella Gonzales of Carrollton, Texas, died while supporting a U.S. mission in Jordan. U.S. Central Command announced Saturday that the two troops were killed as American forces responded to Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks targeting the region. The circumstances surrounding their deaths have not been released. The service members were assigned to support operations tied to the U.S. mission against the Islamic State group. Their deaths mark two of the latest American casualties in the escalating conflict with Iran, as U.S. forces continue conducting military operations across the Middle East in response to Iranian attacks.

Spain is back on top of the soccer world after defeating defending champion Argentina 1-0 in extra time to win the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Substitute Ferran Torres scored the game's only goal in the 106th minute, lifting Spain to its second World Cup title and first since its 2010 championship. Spain controlled much of the match before finally breaking through late in extra time. Argentina, led by Lionel Messi, was unable to find the net despite forcing extra time. The defending champions finished the match with 10 players after Enzo Fernández was sent off in second-half stoppage time. The victory caps an unbeaten tournament for Spain and adds another major international trophy under head coach Luis de la Fuente, whose team also captured the 2024 European Championship.

President Donald Trump said the latest round of U.S. airstrikes against Iran was carried out in honor of American service members killed in recent Iranian attacks. Speaking to reporters Sunday, Trump said U.S. forces struck Iran “very hard” following the deaths of American troops and indicated that additional military action remained possible. The renewed strikes targeted Iranian military infrastructure, including command centers, air-defense systems, missile and drone launch sites and communications facilities, according to U.S. officials. The operation came as fighting between Washington and Tehran entered another consecutive night. Two U.S. soldiers were killed in an Iranian attack on a military base in Jordan, while another service member died during a drone-related incident in Iraq. Iran has continued retaliatory attacks against U.S. and allied targets across the Gulf region. The escalating conflict has also heightened concerns about commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and the possibility of further attacks on military and civilian infrastructure across the Middle East.

Taylor Farms has expanded a voluntary recall of iceberg lettuce products over a possible connection to a multistate Cyclospora outbreak that has sickened dozens of people across the United States. The recalled products were distributed to 27 states, including Texas and Florida, and include select fresh-cut and shredded iceberg lettuce items. The recall was issued after health officials identified a potential link between the products and an outbreak of the parasite Cyclospora cayetanensis. (fda.gov) The U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are investigating the outbreak, which has also been linked to iceberg lettuce served at Taco Bell restaurants in five Midwestern states. Consumers infected with Cyclospora can experience severe diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea, fatigue and weight loss, with symptoms often lasting several weeks if left untreated. (cdc.gov) Consumers are urged to check their refrigerators for recalled products and discard them or return them to the place of purchase. Anyone who develops symptoms after eating recalled lettuce should contact a healthcare provider.

President Donald Trump says the Qatar-donated Boeing 747 currently used as Air Force One will soon be temporarily taken out of service for additional security upgrades. Speaking to reporters Sunday, Trump said the aircraft would be “maxed out” with new upgrades following questions about whether it has the same defensive and communications capabilities as the older presidential planes. Trump began traveling aboard the aircraft on July 1 after the United States accepted it as a gift from Qatar and launched an accelerated effort to prepare it for presidential use. The jet was renovated, flight-tested and repainted in a new red, white, blue and gold design before joining the presidential fleet. Security concerns intensified after Trump used an older Air Force One to depart Turkey during a recent overseas trip. The Secret Service reportedly recommended the change amid renewed tensions with Iran, although the White House has maintained that the newer aircraft meets high-level security standards. The Qatar-donated plane is expected to serve as a temporary presidential aircraft while Boeing continues work on two permanent replacements for the aging Air Force One fleet.

DUBAI, July 19 (Reuters) - The U.S. said it had completed an eighth straight night of attacks against Iran after earlier announcing that at least two U.S. military personnel were killed in Jordan, while U.S. allies in the region reported more Iranian attacks on Sunday. The U.S. military also confirmed a third death in recent days, saying a service member was killed on Saturday in northern Iraq, where the U.S. has military bases, during a controlled detonation of what Central Command called unexploded ordnance on a downed Iranian attack drone. The U.S. and Iran have intensified attacks as an interim ceasefire agreement signed a month ago has unravelled and a struggle for control of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital shipping channel, has deepened, raising the risk of a return to all-out hostilities. Israeli officials said Israel was preparing to receive more U.S. refuelling aircraft after the recent escalation, and ahead of a possible expansion of U.S. military operations against Iran. U.S. Central Command said the latest airstrikes, beginning at 6 p.m. EDT (2200 GMT) on Saturday, were designed "to further degrade Iran's ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and swiftly punish Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces who launched attacks against American service members in Jordan." Even prior to Saturday's attacks from Iran, the U.S. had started moving additional assets to the Middle East, including aircraft such as fighter jets, a U.S. official told Reuters. Central Command later said it had completed its wave of attacks, hitting Iranian military coastal surveillance and air defence facilities. The conflict, which began when the U.S. and Israel attacked Iran on February 28 hoping to disable its nuclear and missile programs and degrade its regional proxies, has killed thousands of people, mostly in Iran and Lebanon, and led to major disruption to energy supplies and fears over global inflation. GULF STATES SAY THEY COME UNDER FRESH IRANIAN ATTACK Iranian media said the U.S. carried out an attack near Sirik in southern Iran, and near Shadegan, close to the border with Iraq. An explosion was later reported in Abadan, in Iran's southwest. Iran's Atomic Energy Organization condemned a U.S. attack on the site of a nuclear power plant under construction in Darkhovin, Iran's Mehr news agency reported. The International Atomic Energy Agency said it was investigating reports of an overnight attack, noting that the plant was in the very early stages of construction. In response to the latest strikes, Iran carried out a drone attack on U.S. military assets and equipment at Kuwait's Al-Adiri camp and Ali Al Salem Air Base, Iranian state TV reported early on Sunday. Iran has hit both bases as part of its attacks against U.S. assets and allies in the Gulf over the past week. Kuwait's government said a desalination plant had been attacked for the second day running, causing a fire, in what it called a direct strike on vital civilian infrastructure. Kuwait's armed forces said earlier they had again intercepted Iranian missiles, after a sustained Iranian attack on Saturday. Bahrain's air defenses also intercepted an Iranian attack on Sunday, its state TV reported. Sirens sounded in Jordan, where the military said it had shot down three Iranian missiles. The Israeli military said it had detected the launch of missiles from Iran toward the Jordanian city of Aqaba, on Israel's border. Jordan summoned Iran's charge d'affaires in protest against recent attacks. In recent days both sides have taken aim at shipping traffic, with the U.S. saying it is enforcing a naval blockade on Iranian ports, and Iran saying it targets vessels violating its rules on navigating the Strait of Hormuz, which usually handles one-fifth of global oil trade. Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said on Sunday four vessels had attempted to transit the strait via an "unsafe route" with U.S. backing after ignoring IRGC warnings. It said two had abandoned the attempt while the other two were involved in an "accident". It did not elaborate. DEATHS OF U.S. SERVICE MEMBERS U.S. Central Command said the deaths of two of its service personnel had occurred on Friday in Jordan and that a third U.S. service member was missing in action. On Sunday, Central Command said in a statement that "unidentified remains" had been found at the site of Friday's attack and that "an examination process to verify the remains is ongoing." The announcements, including Saturday's death in northern Iraq, bring the number of U.S. service members killed since the war began to 17, while more than 420 have been wounded. U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth posted on social media: "Their sacrifice only stiffens our resolve." Iran's Health Ministry said on Saturday that 50 people had been killed and more than 500 wounded in U.S. strikes on the country over the past three weeks alone. Overall, thousands have been killed in the conflict, mainly in Iran and in Lebanon, where a war between Israel and Iran-allied militant group Hezbollah was reignited. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio met Lebanese President Joseph Aoun on Sunday to discuss a U.S.-backed framework agreement signed in June. Aoun will meet U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday to present a plan for disarming Hezbollah and securing Israel's withdrawal from southern Lebanon.
