TORONTO, July 27 (Reuters) - At least one shot was fired outside the U.S. consulate in downtown Toronto early on Monday but there were no injuries, police said, in what was the second such incident in the last four months. Police officers, alerted by the sound of a gunshot, said they found evidence of a weapon having been fired outside the building on University Avenue. In a post on X, police said a white sedan was seen fleeing the scene, adding no injuries were reported, they said. A Reuters reporter on the scene said police had sealed off the immediate area. On March 10, several shots were fired at the same building. The incident followed three separate incidents in which gunshots were fired at synagogues in the Toronto area. In June police said, without providing any more details, that young people in the Toronto area were being paid to shoot at various targets, including synagogues, Jewish schools, and the U.S. Consulate.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is pushing back against New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani after the mayor said Netanyahu should be arrested if he visits New York. In an interview Sunday on Fox News, Netanyahu accused Mamdani of "fomenting hate" and dismissed International Criminal Court allegations related to the war in Gaza as "bogus." Mamdani said last week that while New York City does not have the legal authority to enforce the ICC warrant, he believes the federal government should act if Netanyahu visits. Netanyahu says he still plans to attend the United Nations General Assembly in New York this September. President Donald Trump has said Netanyahu will not be arrested.

Iran says it has halted retaliatory strikes against the United States as long as Washington's pause in military operations continues, raising hopes for renewed diplomacy despite the conflict expanding into other parts of the region. Clancy has pleaded not guilty to three counts of murder in the January 2023 deaths of her children: 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson and 8-month-old Callan. Prosecutors contend Clancy carefully planned the killings and used exercise bands to strangle the children before attempting to take her own life. Her defense team is expected to argue that Clancy was suffering from severe postpartum mental illness and was legally insane at the time of the killings.

One suspect is in custody and another remains on the run after a shooting at Seattle's annual Bite of Seattle food festival left three people dead and four others injured Sunday evening. Police said the gunfire broke out around 6 p.m. beneath the Space Needle as crowds gathered for the popular event. Two victims died at the scene, while a third later died at a hospital. Four others, including a 2-year-old boy, were hospitalized and are reported to be in stable condition. Seattle Assistant Police Chief Tyrone Davis said investigators believe the two suspects were shooting at one another and that the violence was not a random attack. Authorities say there is no ongoing threat to the public as detectives continue searching for the second suspect.
