Trump Says Iran Requested Doha Meeting

President Trump says Iran has requested a meeting with the United States, and that the talks will take place tomorrow in Doha. Trump made the announcement on Truth Social as both countries prepare to resume negotiations over tensions in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz. The meeting comes after the U.S. and Iran agreed to halt recent strikes over the weekend, following days of escalating hostilities that threatened an interim agreement between the two countries.

Search Continues For Missing U.S. Marine

Multiple military agencies are continuing the search for a U.S. Marine who went missing during a training exercise off the coast of Southern California. The Marine was reported missing early Thursday from the USS Anchorage during joint training involving the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group and the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit. The Navy has since transitioned from a search-and-rescue mission to a search-and-recovery operation. The Marine's identity is being withheld until family members are notified. The search has covered more than 2,400 square miles and includes ships and aircraft from the Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and Air Force. Officials say the effort remains ongoing.

Paris Mortuaries Overwhelmed by Record Heat

Record-breaking heat across Europe is taking a deadly toll in France, where mortuaries in Paris are running out of space. Health officials are reporting a sharp rise in deaths linked to the heat wave, with more than 1,400 deaths recorded on some days last week. Older residents are among those most at risk. Funeral directors say they are receiving hundreds of calls a day but have little room left to store bodies as the heat wave continues. Officials expect the death toll to climb as more death certificates are processed.

3 Firefighters Killed As Western Wildfires Grow

Three firefighters have been killed and two others injured while battling fast-moving wildfires near the Colorado-Utah border, as dangerous fire conditions continue across the western United States. Officials say the firefighters were responding to the Knowles and Gore fires when the tragedy occurred. Hot, dry, and windy weather has fueled rapid fire growth throughout the region. The largest blaze, the Cottonwood Fire in southwest Utah, has scorched more than 146 square miles. Both Utah and Colorado have declared states of emergency, with Colorado authorizing the National Guard to assist firefighting efforts. Authorities warn that extreme drought and historically low snowpack have created critical wildfire conditions, with more dangerous fire weather expected.

U.S., Iran Agree to Halt Strikes

The United States and Iran have agreed to halt recent hostilities in the Persian Gulf and resume diplomatic talks aimed at preserving their interim agreement over the Strait of Hormuz. A U.S. official said both sides will stand down for now, allowing commercial vessels to move freely through the vital shipping lane while technical negotiations continue on the 14-point memorandum of understanding reached June 17. The renewed push for diplomacy comes after several days of escalating tensions. Iran launched an attack on a cargo ship in the Strait of Hormuz last week, prompting U.S. defensive action and accusations from both sides that the other had violated the ceasefire. According to Axios, negotiations are expected to resume Tuesday in Qatar as officials work to prevent the fragile agreement from collapsing.

Venezuela Earthquake Death Toll Rises

Rescue crews continue searching for survivors four days after two powerful earthquakes devastated northern Venezuela, killing at least 1,450 people and leaving thousands more missing. Local and international emergency teams are racing against time to pull people from collapsed buildings, even as hopes of finding additional survivors fade with each passing day. The disaster has triggered growing criticism of the Venezuelan government's response, with many residents saying civilian volunteers have led much of the search-and-rescue effort. Officials warn the death toll is expected to rise as crews continue recovering victims and assessing damage across the hardest-hit communities.

Iran Claims $6 Billion In Frozen Assets to Be Released

Iran's president says $6 billion in frozen Iranian assets held in Qatar will be released, despite U.S. officials insisting no funds have been transferred. President Masoud Pezeshkian made the announcement Monday, marking the highest-level public acknowledgment from Tehran that the money could be released as part of ongoing negotiations with Washington. The White House has pushed back on the claim, saying no frozen Iranian assets have been released. The conflicting statements come as talks between the United States and Iran face renewed pressure following recent attacks in the Persian Gulf that threatened an interim agreement between the two countries.

Supreme Court Set To Issue Major Trump Rulings

The Supreme Court is expected to wrap up its term this week with several closely watched decisions involving President Donald Trump’s claims of executive power. Among the remaining cases are challenges involving birthright citizenship, the president’s authority to remove leaders of independent federal agencies, and the attempted dismissal of a sitting Federal Reserve governor. The justices are also expected to rule on cases from West Virginia and Idaho that could determine whether states may continue enforcing laws that restrict transgender girls and women from competing in female school and college sports. By tradition, the Supreme Court completes its work before the July 4 holiday and is scheduled to return for its next public session in October.
