Scared the Heck Out of Her!

My wife has often told me that one of the reasons she fell in love with me is because I am fun. Every now and then, she’ll tell me that we need to have some fun. In other words, life is getting boring. Our relationship is in the doldrums—a little too routine and mundane. That’s just the ammunition I need to really fire things up.

One day, my wife was getting ready to go to the grocery store. I knew she’d be leaving in fifteen or twenty minutes, so I snuck out to our car and climbed in the backseat. I crouched down in the bottom so she couldn’t see me. As it got closer to the time for her to go, I heard her yelling to me, “Hey babe, I’m going to the grocery store.” And when I didn’t reply: “Dan, where are you?” Of course, I remained quiet in the backseat like a trained intelligence agent. But right now, I bet some of you are thinking I’m not so intelligent.

Anyhow, my wife kind of muttered her way into the front seat saying, “I wonder where he is. Well, I guess he’ll figure out where I am.” She then proceeded to back the car out of the driveway and was going down the road a bit when I made my move. I reached up ever so quietly and with what some of you will call cruelty, I just latched on to her shoulder with my hand. That woman almost went through the sunroof—and it wasn’t even open!

I, of course, started laughing so hard. She put on the brakes. Firmly, I might add. Then, she put the car in park, got out, and headed straight toward me. Although she wasn’t initially laughing, she did eventually start to chuckle and then broke out into a laugh. There we were, both of us, on the side of the road laughing hysterically.

I said to her, “See, I know how to have fun with you.” She replied, “Well, we can have fun, but you don’t have to give me a heart attack.” As you might have guessed, I did have to walk home from there, but I did enjoy a fun moment with my wife. While it might not be the kind of fun you would consider having with your wife, it did work for us. Every couple is different. Together, you have to explore what is enjoyable for the two of you.

It’s important that you have some humorous times in your marriage. Maybe you start a little water fight in the kitchen or you sit down and play a game from your childhood like Go Fish or Monopoly. The important thing is that you find ways to be silly with each other. It’s more intimate than you might realize. It helps to bring you back to the days when you dated, and it opens you up emotionally to let your hair down with someone you love.
