What a beautiful and talented family! The members of the family band include husband and wife, Secan and Sheena, and their four children: Naces, who is 15 years old and plays the keyboard; Neisha, who is 13 years old and play lead guitar; Stacey, who is 11 years old and sings/play rhythm guitar; and Isaiah, who is 10 years old and plays drums.

This family band has a beautiful mission, as stated on their YouTube page. “We are a family commissioned to propagate the importance of family unity by showing love and respect to each family member and for one another. We put into action our God-given gifts to bring joy and fun into other people’s lives through music,” their bio reads. “Missioned Souls was born out of our earnest desire to give thanks for the simple musical talent we receive from above, thus, giving glory to the Holy Trinity.”

As the song begins, the father has such a deep and rich voice. He is easy to listen to, and his precious children surround him with guitar, bass, and harmonies. They are proclaiming the challenges that come in our world and in our nation. The little girl has a precious voice singing alongside her dad.

The chorus of this early 2000s hit says:

This world has never been in the awful shape it’s in
And people scorn the things our leaders do
It’s time a prayer was spoken from the heart of every man
Jesus, take a hold and lead us through

This family will compel you with their music and genuine concern in their faces as they sing these lyrics. They remind us that we need Jesus and that we should prioritize prayer. Every single person needs to be seeking God on behalf of our world. 

We are reminded and exposed to so much division and destruction. Today, we do not know who to trust or what the truth is. However, we know that God and His Word are always faithful and true, and He promises to always lead us through whatever circumstances we face. He is always with His people. 

As you listen to this song, be compelled to pray, remember the Lord is at work, and trust that He is faithful even in the midst of a dark world. He is the light of the world, and we have hope in Him.

This is one beautiful and soothing guitar instrumental of “Old Rugged Cross.” It’s a lovely, moving performance of a tune near and dear to the hearts of many, which deserves to be heard multiple times. Musicians continually seek new and inventive ways to produce beautiful sounds. Will this work if I play it that way? How will it sound if I play this note at this moment? They want to push themselves and see what they are capable of doing with their God-given talent. Who wouldn’t want to know what they can do? That ought to be something we should all be doing regularly.

One way musicians can test themselves and see how far they’ve come and how far they still have to go is by playing covers. It gives them a standard to shoot for, something to hold themselves to. Will they be able to play a song the way it was meant to be played? Will anyone else recognize the tune they are playing?

In a clip posted on YouTube, one musician played a familiar favorite and did so in a way that we don’t often hear. With guitar in hand, he played the beloved church hymn, “Old Rugged Cross.”
It’s a stunning and moving display of musical talent. Even though he does not sing any of those familiar lyrics, what he is playing is unmistakably “Old Rugged Cross.” Anyone who has spent any amount of time in church will quickly recognize the tune, likely within the first couple of notes.

Additionally, the fact that he does not sing any of the words does not detract from the performance in the slightest. One could argue that it adds to the musical display, making it even more special. Most people, when they hear him play, will probably hear those lyrics in their head as he plays anyway.

Billy begins by inviting the choir of people sitting around him to join in the song he is about to lead, and they agree. His voice is so soothing and rich. There are many people surrounding Billy who are reflective and appear to be pondering on the sweetness of salvation in Jesus. 

In particular, there is a woman who is highlighted various times by the camera. She is wearing red and is deeply moved by the lyrics of this precious song. She appears to be reflecting on the hardships of this life and death. You can see such gratitude in the eyes of these people as Billy sings. 

The chorus says:

Whatever burdens you are carrying today, lay them at the feet of Jesus. He wants to give us His peace in the valley. He has already gone ahead of us to prepare the way of eternal life in Him. 

We might be in the darkest valleys yet, but the Savior is still shining as bright as He always has, and we can hold on to hope and cling to His peace. As we listen to this beautiful song, we can all reflect on the Lord as our good Shepherd, as described in Psalm 23. Listen as Billy finesses this melody and sings his heart out.
