Authorities Arrest Man With Ammo At Trump Golf Course Near L.A.

RANCHO PALOS VERDES, Calif. (AP) — Authorities on Sunday arrested a man who was walking the grounds and appeared to be monitoring security planning at President Donald Trump’s California golf course two days ahead of the president’s visit. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said the man was taking photos and video and had a 16-round magazine with ammunition in his pocket. They recovered a loaded pistol in his car. The sheriff’s department announced the arrest Tuesday as Trump was preparing to arrive for a fundraising dinner at his golf club outside of Los Angeles. The 38-year-old man was arrested for carrying a concealed firearm and possessing prohibited ammunition. Law enforcement searched his home Monday and found a plethora of firearms, magazines and ammunition, body armor, and notebooks with “concerning statements.” The sheriff’s department said there is “no credible threat to our communities.”

Trump's Strategy: Iran's Declining Threat to US Interests

Dr. James Carfano, a distinguished military strategist and expert on foreign and defense policy, shares his insights on the current geopolitical landscape involving Iran. Carfano emphasizes that President Trump's policies have significantly diminished Iran's capabilities, making it less of a threat to US interests in the Middle East. He explains that Iran no longer has the power to build a nuclear weapon, threatens its neighbors with ballistic missiles, or controls the Strait of Hormuz, crucial for global oil trade. Carfano highlights that every military operation against Iran by Trump further weakens their potential to pose a threat, underscoring the importance of continuing these operations. He also discusses the political implications of these developments, suggesting that the success of these policies will be crucial for Trump's legacy in the upcoming elections. Carfano concludes by noting the positive regional dynamics resulting from these strategic shifts, with countries aligning more closely with the US and showing signs of stability and cooperation.

Sophie Cunningham Is Saving The WNBA From Themselves

In a shocking display of doublespeak, the WNBA is pushing a radical agenda that's leaving many scratching their heads. The speaker shares their thoughts on the league's puzzling stance, which seems to prioritize inclusivity over fairness and science. This episode delves into the world of women's sports, where the lines between men and women are becoming increasingly blurred. The speaker discusses the recent controversy surrounding the WNBA's decision to allow biological males to participate in women's sports, and the implications this has on the integrity of the game. They also touch on the reactions of some WNBA coaches and players, who seem to be more concerned with being "inclusive" than with protecting the rights of women. The speaker isn't afraid to call out the hypocrisy of those who claim to be champions of inclusivity while simultaneously erasing the very concept of women's sports. They highlight the absurdity of some of the arguments made by WNBA coaches and players, who seem to be more interested in virtue-signaling than in standing up for what's right. If you're as confused as we are about the WNBA's latest moves, tune in to this episode to hear the speaker's take on the situation. They'll share their thoughts on the importance of preserving women's sports and the need for a more nuanced conversation about inclusivity and fairness. The conversation also examines the evolving Republican Party, drawing connections to the themes of *In Trump's Shadow* and broader shifts in American politics.

Aug. 4 Primaries Underway In Several U.S. States

Michigan’s marquee Democratic Senate primary, testing whether the party wants a progressive standard-bearer or an establishment-backed pick with government experience, tops Tuesday’s list of must-watch elections. Voters in Kansas, Missouri, Virginia and Washington state are also settling a host of races. But Michigan’s Democratic Senate primary between Bernie Sanders-backed Abdul El-Sayed and four-term Rep. Haley Stevens, has captured outsized attention as a stark indicator of what voters are looking for in a competitive battleground.

Guatemala's Fuego Volcano Erupts, Prompts Evacuations

GUATEMALA CITY, Aug 4 (Reuters) - Guatemalan authorities ordered the preventive evacuation of two communities near the Fuego volcano late on Monday as it entered a more intense eruptive phase, spewing ash and sending pyroclastic flows down its slopes. The eruption sent pyroclastic flows — fast-moving mixtures of volcanic gas, ash and rock — down five ravines, disaster management officials said. The evacuations were ordered in the areas of El Porvenir and Las Lajitas, both in the municipality of San Juan Alotenango. Officials on Tuesday warned the flows could travel further if activity intensifies. Ash cloud dispersal could affect areas up to 100 km (62 miles) west and northwest of the volcano. Authorities on Tuesday declared an "orange alert" and stepped up monitoring of the volcano. A major eruption in 2018 of the Fuego volcano, about 30 km (19 miles) south of Guatemala City, buried an entire community and killed more than 200 people.

South Korean Students Detained For Allegedly Breaking Into U.S. Military Base

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — A group of eight South Korean students were detained Tuesday for allegedly breaking into a United States air base while shouting anti-U.S. slogans, South Korean authorities said. U.S. military personnel detained the four male and four female students after they allegedly entered Osan Air Base near the capital Seoul. They were later transferred to the custody of South Korean authorities, police said. The students were being investigated under a law protecting military installations in South Korea, according to police, who said they all had invoked their right to remain silent during questioning. Police said the students shouted slogans at the site including, “Let’s smash U.S. 7th Air Force.” A U.S. military statement said the group attempted to unlawfully enter the base through the main gate and that “unauthorized attempts to access a U.S. military installation are taken extremely seriously.” The incident will be addressed in accordance with applicable U.S. and South Korean laws and procedures, the military said. The Korean Progressive University Student Union said in a statement on Facebook that those detained were members who were trying to protest what it called the U.S. military's opposition to a South Korean semiconductor cluster project. South Korean police declined to comment on the group's statement, which was not addressed by the U.S. military. Yonhap news agency reported the U.S. said it has important interests in a military airport set to be relocated over the semiconductor project. There are about 28,500 U.S. troops stationed in South Korea to help deter potential aggression from North Korea, a legacy of the 1950-53 Korean War that ended with an armistice, not a peace treaty. Surveys have steadfastly shown a majority of South Koreans support the U.S.-South Korean military alliance, but the U.S. presence and its role in South Korea's turbulent modern history also have been long-running sources of anti-U.S. sentiment among many in South Korea. South Korean police arrested four students in 2019 who broke into the U.S. ambassador’s residence in Seoul while protesting the Trump administration’s demands for the country to pay more to help cover the costs of U.S. troops there.

Trump Administration Will Close 5 U.S. Consulates In Africa, Asia & Western Hemisphere

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Trump administration has informed Congress that it intends to close five smaller U.S. embassies, consulates and other diplomatic missions in Africa, Asia and the Western Hemisphere, even as it steams ahead with plans to reopen shuttered posts in Libya and Syria and has reopened the long-closed embassy in Venezuela. In separate notices sent late last week to lawmakers, the State Department said it would close the U.S. embassy in the Caribbean island of Grenada; the consulates in Nagoya, Japan, and Medan, Indonesia; the American Presence Post in Winnipeg, Canada; and an embassy branch office in Douala, Cameroon. The closures are expected to save the government roughly $4.4 million per year, according to the notices obtained by The Associated Press. But the missions to be closed employ very few people compared with others. The embassy in St. George’s, Grenada, and the consulate in Nagoya have only one American staffer and five local employees each. The consulate in Medan has four direct-hire U.S. staffers and 47 local employees. The Winnipeg post has only two local staffers, and the embassy office in Douala has only 14 local staffers. The State Department announced plans earlier this year to permanently close the U.S. consulate in Peshwar, Pakistan, which was the closest diplomatic mission to Afghanistan since American troops withdrew in 2021. The steps come as the department moves to streamline its operations at home and abroad, while investing millions of dollars into reopening the U.S. embassies in Caracas; Damascus, Syria; and Tripoli, Libya; to restore America’s formal diplomatic presence following the ouster of long-ruling autocrats in those countries.
