Family of Nolan Wells Seeks Answers In Death Investigation

The family of Nolan Wells says it will work with Mississippi prosecutors as the investigation into the 18-year-old's death continues following his disappearance during a July Fourth boat trip. Civil rights attorney Ben Crump says prosecutors have agreed to work with the family to inspect Wells' cellphone and have committed to presenting the completed investigation to a grand jury. Wells went missing after a gathering on Horn Island off the Mississippi Gulf Coast. His body was recovered the following day, but authorities say the investigation remains ongoing and the official autopsy results have not yet been released. Family members continue to raise questions about the circumstances surrounding Wells' disappearance and death, while urging anyone with information or video from the gathering to come forward.

Trump Fires Court-Appointed Seattle Prosecutor

President Donald Trump has fired a court-appointed U.S. attorney in Seattle less than an hour after he was sworn into office, escalating a dispute over who has the authority to temporarily lead federal prosecutors' offices. Roger Rogoff was unanimously appointed by federal judges in Washington's Western District after the administration did not secure Senate confirmation for its preferred nominee. Shortly after taking the oath of office, Rogoff received notice that he had been removed by the Trump administration. The Justice Department argues the president has the authority to dismiss court-appointed U.S. attorneys, while supporters of the judges' appointment say the move undermines the traditional process for temporarily filling the position when a Senate-confirmed nominee has not been approved. Rogoff says he is consulting with attorneys about possible legal action over his removal.

Trump Endorses Mike Lindell For Minnesota Governor

President Donald Trump has endorsed MyPillow founder Mike Lindell in Minnesota’s Republican primary for governor. Trump praised Lindell as a hardworking patriot and said he would help turn Minnesota around. Lindell thanked the president for his support and said he plans to “Make Minnesota Great Again.” Lindell is competing against several Republican candidates ahead of the August 11 primary, including Minnesota House Speaker Lisa Demuth and businessman Kendall Qualls. The businessman has remained one of Trump’s most prominent political allies since the 2020 election. The winner of the Republican primary will compete for the open governor’s seat in November.

New Slavery Exhibit Sparks Criticism In Philadelphia

The Trump administration has replaced an exhibit about slavery at the site of President George Washington’s former home in Philadelphia, drawing criticism from historians and city officials. The previous display at the President’s House site on Independence Mall focused heavily on the nine enslaved people who lived there with Washington during the 1790s. The revised panels still acknowledge slavery but use less direct language and remove some earlier material, including a map of slave trade routes. Critics argue the new presentation downplays the brutality of slavery and sanitizes an important part of American history. Philadelphia officials and civil rights advocates have also raised concerns about how the replacement was carried out. The Interior Department says the updated display provides historical context while presenting a broader account of the nation’s founding. The change is part of the administration’s larger effort to revise exhibits and historical presentations at federally managed sites.

Rikers Island Inmates Watch World Cup Semifinal

More than 100 inmates at New York City's Rikers Island correctional facility gathered to watch the FIFA World Cup semifinal between England and Argentina as part of a behavior incentive program. The watch party was held at the jail's main intake center and featured a large projection screen for inmates who had remained incident-free for at least 30 days. Correction officials say the facility has hosted similar World Cup viewing events since the tournament began last month to encourage positive behavior among inmates. The program is designed to reward good conduct while providing structured recreational opportunities inside the jail.

Former Cargo Ship Captain Pleads Guilty To Raping Merchant Marine Cadet

A former cargo ship captain has pleaded guilty to drugging and raping a U.S. Merchant Marine Academy cadet during a training voyage in 2019. John Merrone admitted in federal court that he had sexual intercourse with the 21-year-old cadet without her consent after incapacitating her with an intoxicating substance while the ship was at sea. The guilty plea came just before his trial was set to begin in Brooklyn, where a jury had already been selected and the victim was prepared to testify. The case has drawn renewed attention to concerns about sexual assault and safety aboard commercial vessels used in the Merchant Marine Academy's at-sea training program.
